Singapore will stop counting COVID-19 cases, here's why?

Singapore -Singapore has its own way of dealing with COVID-19 . After treating it as just a common cold, the country now wants to stop counting COVID-19 cases.

Currently, countries in the Asia-Pacific region are struggling to suppress the transmission of the Delta variant of the Corona virus, which is a new scourge for the community. This is different from Singapore which is slowly preparing a new normal life scheme.

Reporting from CNN , Wednesday (30/6/2021) three members of Singapore's COVID-19 task force proposed removing the lockdown and mass contact tracing. Then they also suggested that free return trips be carried out without quarantine as well as restarting large gatherings. They also proposed that the government stop counting COVID-19 cases every day.

These suggestions clearly deviate from the standards practiced by other countries, including another Asian business hub, Hong Kong. Hong Kong has proven its country has succeeded in controlling COVID-19 by tightening everywhere. However, Singapore is of the opinion that living with COVID-19 is doable.

"The bad news is that COVID-19 may never go away. The good news is that it is possible to live a normal life with it in our midst," said Singapore's Trade Minister Gan KIm Yong, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung.

"We can turn a pandemic into something unnecessarily threatening, like influenza, hand, foot and mouth disease, or chickenpox, and move on with our lives," he said.

Singapore considers this step to be a solution for those who want to return to normal life, including revitalizing the tourism and travel business.
